Trivia: Legend of city name - The history says that a beautiful princess named Ana lived in a castle hidden in the city. A young man fall in love with her, and whenever he could see her in a castle window he would start running with joy through the streets shouting. “Vi a Ana do Castelo! Viana do Castelo, founded by charter by King D. Afonso III in 1258, is the further north Portuguese city. Archaeological findings like Citânia de Santa Luzia from the Iron Age and other from the Mesolithic Age demonstrate that human occupation in this area goes back many thousands of years before Christ.
